What summer heat, blowing off steam, and coming back to center might have in common.

Reposted from a Substack Article dated JUL 30, 2026

I am no stranger to heat. With a fire sign of a Sagittarius and a son born under the blazing-hot Leo SUN, heat has pretty much followed me, tripped me up, and burned things through and for me in ways I could have never imagined. I suppose you could say it has been both my nemesis and my blessing. I never quite understood how one side of the coin could possibly hold both… but here I am, talking about it.

So let’s set the stage for a couple of weeks back, shall we?

This is me getting a little sneak peak of a beautiful rose garden in Ithaca before the temps rose that week. (Neck fan in hiding but on the ready )

Temperatures rose into the balmy degrees of 90 and even 100, where air conditioners could barely keep up on their cooler settings and every splash pad seemed to have children from the age of two all the way up to 102 (albeit) looking for some respite.

It makes me wonder what we ever did to Mother Earth for her to side with Father Sun and heat the beejeezus out of us. But perhaps that is for another discussion on another day.

For now, I thought I would take this opportunity to throw out a few ways and ideas for cooling our jets, so to speak, when the summer heat simply does not want to back down.

The thing is, this all happened around the time of fireworks galore, backyard grilling, and maybe a little chilling, too. Again, more fire, more heat, more combustion. And that’s all fine and good…until the heat starts to wear us down.

Until we’re tired, uncomfortable, cranky, or simply not feeling like ourselves.

Until we find ourselves becoming heated in the way we interact and relate to one another.

Is it me, or does it seem that when we find ourselves in the heat of a moment, we don’t tolerate discomfort all that easily? We don’t always think straight, see straight, or even feel connected to our core and our Source enough to make the decisions we need to move forward.

So how do we rectify that?

I recall a woman in an art group I was attending a couple of years ago commenting on the neck fan I was wearing. (Yes, I am one of those gals—the fan around my neck, the spray bottle at the ready, and an iced beverage in my cup.) We ended up getting in a deep discussion on how when things in our natural environment are heating up so do our tempers. I could not disagree.

Although I was walking out the door to get into my cool car, that sentiment stayed with me, and that was a few years ago,

It still feels true to me today.

I started to mention that I wanted to throw out some ideas on how you,me, we might cool our jets without relying on obvious everyday solutions. Sure, you could go jump in a lake, or run under a sprinkler. Fight fire with water? Absolutely. Any day.

But what about our internal temperatures?

Something tells me we can blow off steam in many different ways, too.

Just like that 1,000-pound locomotive, “Big Boy,” that came through our town on one of the hottest days of the week. There was something about watching that enormous machine move through town, releasing all that heat and steam, and then witnessing the sweet release afterward.

I was so close to the Big Boy himself that I felt both the heat and steam when it came rolling past me.

It got me thinking…Maybe we are not so different. Like a volcano that eventually blows its top. Or a tea kettle that whistles when it has reached its boiling point—and then lets the steam escape.

Are you seeing the pattern here?

How do you blow off steam?

How do you release your pent-up energy before it has a chance to boil over?

Perhaps you dance, shake, rattle, and roll.

Maybe you go to the gym and work out.

Maybe you sit down with a big piece of paper and brain-dump every thought that has been swirling around inside your head.

Maybe you hum, sing, or chant yourself back into a little more peace and harmony.

Maybe you get yourself a full-body massage and simply “ahhhhhh” your way back toward regulation.

Because what we are really talking about here is nervous system regulation—and the beautiful thing is that it doesn’t look exactly the same for everyone.

What calms one person might energize another.

What helps one person release might help someone else reconnect.

So for now remember this mantra to Cool Your Jets (Move it, Write it, Sound it, Feel it, and Rest it)
The five ways of releasing and regulating:

  • Move It (Shake that thang)
  • Write It (Give voice to what ails you)
  • Sound It (Shout it from the mountain tops)
  • Feel It (Let it be in your body)
  • Rest It (Find acceptance and peace)

Nervous system regulation isn’t a one-size-fits-all and how we learn what brings us back to center is by actually tracking patterns, and being very in tune with what your body is trying to tell you.

🕯️ Candles Lit This Week

For the people who need permission to move, (Dance like no one is watching you)

For the ones who need to put pen to paper (Write your heart out)

For the voices that need to be heard or simply hummed (The universe is listening)

and

For the bodies that are asking to be held, touched, stretched or soothed (Self-care is Self-Love and is being called for now more than ever).

For those of you still scratching your head and wondering how to cool your jets in the midst of the heat, perhaps try this:

Place your hand on your heart.

Get real still.

Take a breath.

And ask yourself…

What do I really need right now, here in this moment?

Then listen.

Really listen.

Because sometimes the answer is already there, waiting quietly beneath all the heat.

Sending you all my love, gratitude and a boat load of cool, calming waters to help you get through this chapter of life.

P.S. A Little Something I Created for This Month.

If you found yourself nodding along as you read this and feeling like you could use a little more insight into the energies moving through this month, I created something for you.

Yesterday, I sat down and recorded a 30-minute channeled energy forecast for this month—something I felt called to bring through and share with those who are curious about what may be unfolding energetically and how we might work with it rather than against it.

I’m offering this recording for $22.

And I want you to know that when you choose to receive something like this from me, you are also helping support the ongoing work I am creating and bringing into the world.

The writing.

The gatherings.

The teachings.

The creative work.

The spaces I continue to hold for people who are searching for a little more meaning, connection, and heart in their lives.

The Beautiful Heart Center nestled in the finger lakes region in downtown Wellsburg NY with the big beautiful blue front doors that beckon you to come inside.

I don’t always talk about the practical side of creating this kind of work, but it does take energy, time, and resources to keep bringing these offerings forward. Your support helps make that possible—and allows me to continue following the threads that lead me toward whatever comes next. And I am so internally grateful for that.

If you would like a copy of the recording for an exchange of $22, simply reach out to me and let me know. I’ll connect with you personally about the next step.

And who knows…

This may just be the beginning of something new that we create together.

With love always from the sanctuary,

Renee
