Nature spirits, childhood wonder, and the spaces where the veil feels thin…..take a magical journey with me
Reposted from a Substack Article dated MAY 30, 2026
Yesterday, I hosted a Fairy Habitat and Nature Connection Workshop with a group of Girl Scouts, their leader, and a few parents at a local park near the river here in PA.It was a balmy 80 degrees.
Today, I’m writing to you wrapped in a flannel on a chilly morning, with winds whipping at 30 miles per hour—one of those days where it says it’s going to be 60, but certainly doesn’t feel like it.
And I had to laugh a little…because it seems like every time I sit down to write to you, it somehow comes back to the weather, the seasons, and the rhythm of it all.
I wonder what it feels like where you are as you read this? So here we go again. This time, I want to talk with you about something a little more whimsical… and yet, for me, very real.
The Season of the Fae.
But before we go there, let me share what I mean when I say “Fae.”
You see, for as long as I can remember, I grew up close to the natural world—near the water, across from a dense old forest, surrounded by places to wander, roam, and explore. And in that space, I befriended what I came to know as the little people.
I could sense them.
I could hear them.
And as a child, I truly felt like I played alongside them.
Now, in places like Northern Ireland and other Celtic regions, stories of fae, sprites, and house brownies are woven into everyday life. It’s part of the culture, the land, the lore.
But here in little old America? Not always something openly talked about.
And yet… that didn’t change my experience.
I come from strong Irish lineage, and somewhere along the way, I’ve always felt that connection stayed with me. My mother will still tell you—if you asked her today—that I was the child outside talking to flowers, fully engaged with what others might have called “imaginary friends.”

Now I get it…If you’re reading this and thinking,
“Okay Renee, this is where you lost me…” — I understand. Truly.
And I also have to laugh a little, because unless you tell me, I won’t actually know if you’ve decided to wander off from this story… will I? (wink, wink)
Unless, of course… there’s some kind of treasure waiting at the end for those who stay. Now that would be something a true fae spirit might do.
So let’s talk about this Season of the Fae. This isn’t about a cartoon version of fairies or a Tinker Bell type image. This is about something much more rooted.
Nature Spirits.
The unseen intelligence, presence, or energy that lives within and around the natural world.
Yesterday, as I sat with the girls, I offered it to them in a way they could understand: That we might think of the Fae as Nature’s angels. That every flower, every blade of grass, every living thing has an energy—a presence—guiding it, supporting it, helping it grow. And you could see it land for them.
Because when you look at nature that way… it begins to feel alive in a whole new sense.
The word Faery itself is an older term—one that includes the full spectrum of beings:
elves, gnomes, sprites, the keepers of earth, air, fire, and water. There are many stories and traditions that speak to this world…
An old tale tells of a magical race known as the Tuatha Dé Danann—people of the Goddess Danu—who lived in what was called the Otherworld, a realm that existed alongside ours, separated only by the thinnest veil.Over time, that veil seemed to close, and the worlds drifted apart.
But not entirely. Many believe the fae never disappeared… they simply became less visible—choosing to dwell in places where the veil is still thin.
It exists alongside our everyday world—
not fully separate, but not always fully seen either.
It’s heard in the quiet.
Seen in the corner of your eye.
Felt in those moments where something just seems to… respond.
So this isn’t just about tiny winged beings flitting about. It’s about a relationship with the natural world. A remembering, perhaps…
That there is more going on here than what we can always see. And that, whether we realize it or not, we are in relationship with it all.

Sacred land.
Ancient spaces.
Places where there is still reverence for the natural world.
And I can’t help but feel places like the Heart Center carry a bit of that as well… don’t you?
There was also a time in my life when this connection became more than something I simply felt… It became something I followed.
In the fall of 2001, just after 9/11, the world grew very quiet.
Heavy.
Uncertain.
And like many others, I found myself asking:
How do I bring something good into a world that feels like it’s hurting?
Out of that question… Faery Dustings was born. Not as a business at first—but as a way of offering small moments of light, comfort, and connection. Through the years, it has taken on different forms, but the heart of it has always remained the same:
To inspire people
To reconnect with the Earth
And to remember that even the smallest, most magical moments… matter
And in more recent years, that connection has deepened again—
Working with the energy of the fae not just as something whimsical… but as a source of insight, creativity, and joy and it has been at the heart of what I do and what I believe. And I wonder if you believe in that too?

If something in this speaks to you…
There are a few ways you can begin to explore this world for yourself.
Over the years, I’ve created and held space for experiences like:
• Fairy Habitat & Nature Connection Workshops
• Fairy Garden & Sacred Space Consultations
• Creative, earth-based practices that reconnect you to your own sense of wonder through intuitive art.
And truthfully…
There is so much more that has been quietly waiting—
writings, teachings, and creations that may be ready to take new form.
Perhaps even something more ongoing… a shared space where we can explore this magical realm together in very grounded practical day to day life ways. With celebration, song, ritual and reverence. For what we know deep down in our hearts and soul but may have simply forgotten or pushed it aside.
But for now—
this is simply an invitation.
To notice
To remember
To reconnect
And to decide…If you believe.
In your own way, and in your own time.

These are the kinds of stories and spaces that continue to unfold here… quietly, gently, and in their own time.
The unseen, the remembered, the felt. And whether you are simply reading from afar…
or beginning to notice these things in your own world…
You are always welcome here.
The fire is warm.
The door is open.
Come sit when you need.
